They Are Around
You know, the more you write, the harder it becomes to actually think of a title for your post. I am very tired as of now, but I need to write something. This time it is about a friend whom I just met again after more than 10 years. Quite a long time indeed, but it was a welcome occasion.
I met him during another friend’s wedding party, which happened to be his friend also. To cut things short, we exchange phone number, like any civilized human being would do when they met again after a long time. Although we rarely followed up with our friend after that, thanks to our so-called busy lives.
But he did send me an e-mail the next day, nothing personal, just a forwarding of those story-type e-mails that you usually send yourself. I didn’t give it much thought at the moment, not until he phoned me several days ago, asking if he could drop by my house and ask for my opinion about a project of his.
When people whom you haven’t seen for more than 10 years suddenly asked to drop by your house and chat, they, most of the time, have some hidden agendas, and the case is also the same with my friend here. I already got a little suspicious, so I told my wife that a long time school friend is dropping by to chat, and I tell her not to be surprised if my friend is offering us the best life insurance rates in town.
To make story short, he is not offering us any kind of insurance, but rather a membership to a system called ‘Smart Shopping’ where you could buy whatever you want, from rice, to soy sauce, and even kids toys from your house without the need to go out and buy them from a store yourself, saving time and money in the process.
As it happened, the “Smart Shopping” system is the newest marketing plan of a certain networking company that is very famous around the globe. I have to admit that I was quite surprised. I am indeed expected him to sell me something, but to think that he offered me to join with that networking company is unexpected.
Anyway, I know that their member base is growing, but still it surprised me nonetheless. It seems they are everywhere and you will never know who will persuade you to join next time. I have to admit it is somewhat funny, but then again life is funny too, sometimes. Oh well, back to life and see you around!
