The Biggest Loser

For those of you who are clueless, you might think that this post is about someone who is a failure, someone who loses every time. Although I believe that even if you really do lose every time, or feel that you are a failure, you will become a loser only when you stop trying, when you stopped believing.

But this post is not actually about that kind of person, this post is actually about a TV show with the exact same title. It is a reality show where they took a bunch of obese / overweight person, and in the course of few month, try and make one of them the victor by losing the most percentage of their starting weight.

I only started watching the show recently on Kabelvision’s (a cable tv provider in Jakarta, Indonesia) Hallmark channel. It was during the second season of The Biggest Loser, and even then I watched it when it was already about halfway through. To state it simply, I love watching the show!

Here in Indonesia, most locally made reality show exposes other people’s secret to humiliate them, they exposes violence, unrealistic dreams, and many other that actually incite negative emotion in the viewer. It could be because I rarely watched the local TV channel anymore, but I have yet to find a local TV show, whether it is a reality show or not, that can really inspire me and makes me feel good watching it.

I really love watching the second season of The Biggest Loser, it was the most enlightening and inspiring TV show I’ve ever watched. I gained a lot of knowledge from the show, too! I am not actually an overweight person, but I believe we should use our body responsibly, and being obese / overweight is, in my opinion, shows that we aren’t being responsible enough.

I heard that the show inspire a lot of people in the US to lose weight, to be more responsible for their own health. Many of the contestants have overweight related problems, and also problems caused by unhealthy lifestyle habit. How did the show able to change that? By showing us what the contestants must do in order to lose weight, having a healthy lifestyle and be responsible for their own health.

It wasn’t easy, which is why, just like any other reality shows, they offered a hefty sum of money for the remaining three or four contestants. The contestants are eliminated one by one every week, so the competition is there, which is also serves as one of the motivations to push the contestants to lose weight faster.

They split the contestants in teams, where every team have their own personal trainer to guide and help them during the competition. To show them how to lose weight healthily, which is by doing a rigorous training, and controlling the food that they ate. You can try using weight loss pills to lose your weight if you want, though.

That’s why I’m thankful for the show, because it shows that you can lose weight healthily and with great results if only you could muster up the courage and will to do so. Right now I’m watching the third season on Kabelvision’s Hallmark and I’ll be posting more about it. See you all later!!

Hi, I got through your blog when I searched “the biggest loser” on Google. Ever since season 3 I’ve been a big fan of the show. It’s nice to see their transformation from being fat to being FAB, old fashioned way, hehe. Made me regret that I took my gym membership for granted!

Hi there! I know about the show from my mom and sis. I watched it about halfway through season 2, and we (my wife and I) love it ever since. It even brought me to tears sometimes. So far the 2nd season is our favorite.

It is one of the most inspiring show I’ve ever seen. I wish more people could be exposed to the show. I also wish that I could have Bob or Kim or Jill as a personal trainer so I could realize my dream of having washboard abs, LOL.

Anyway, thanks for dropping by and see you around!

I agree that we should have the Indonesian version of the Biggest Loser show. I know a couple of my friends who could benefit by participating or even just watching the show because it changes your perspective about weight related problems.

Having an amazing body is just a bonus, the one that mattered the most is getting healthier. Anyway, let us hope that they will make a local version soon!!

Personally, I think this show never shows people about how to look fabulous or pretty or gorgeous by losing weight, it is always about how to live a healthy lifestyle :)

Nice blog Gio. Very-well written and you use very good English :) I have been watching this show too and it’s really an inspiring show. I used to have problems with my weight and I got to lose about 33 lbs by combining diet and exercise and hey it worked. Seriously, losing weight is not about having an amazing body, it’s about having a healthy life..the weight loss is a bonus :)

Keep up the good work! :)
