Something To Think About
My best friend is lying in a hospital bed, having contracted the dengue fever. He’s been receiving care at the hospital since Christmas Eve. Having contracted the fever once in the past, I can more or less feel his pain. It was the only time I ever received care for almost a week at the hospital.
I can tell you that it was a most unpleasant experience for me and I believe that it must be the same with him. To make it worse, he had to celebrate Christmas at the hospital with only some of his family standing by to cheer him up.
I haven’t been able to pay him a visit either, since I was out of town when he first got admitted in the hospital. I am deeply saddened by this, and the fact that I still hasn’t been able to go and pay him a visit. I really, really hope he’d understand.
Right now I can only pray for his recovery, and hoping that he’ll be able to come home soon. At the very least I hope he can spend the New Year’s Eve with his family. Last I heard his condition is steady, although remembering my own experience with the disease, it will take him a while before he can fully recover.
This made me think that there are many kinds of sickness nowadays; some like cancer was getting more and more widespread. I remember reading about them on Wikipedia. I read that the most common cause of death is lung cancer, for men and women alike.
I also read about many other cancer types, such as leukemia or mesothelioma. It makes me wonder. Will we ever gonna find a cure for cancer? We can only hope that someday, we will eventually find the best cure for cancer, for mankind’s sake.
