Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Lip Synch
A couple of days ago I was just reading the BBC News site through the site’s feeds as usual when I read an article about the China Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. It said that a pretty girl who was singing at the ceremony was actually miming / lip synching.
The girl, Lin Miaoke, who is 9 years old, was chosen to sing because she was pretty, and the girl who actually sung, Yang Peiyi, who is 7 years old, was told that she cannot appear at the ceremony because she was deemed not as ‘presentable’ as Lin Miaoke.
I was shocked when I read about it. I mean, they are teaching these two kids that it is okay to accept such treatment and discrimination. Even if their parent didn’t initially agreed to do such thing, the question is did they have a choice in the matter?
But then again, the world is full of discrimination nowadays and it is a sad thing indeed. Even we as parent ourselves are guilty of such acts. We tend to be nicer to people or things that is more beautiful. I am also afraid that, whether unconsciously or even knowingly, we tend to teach our kids to do so.
At the very least there is something that we can learn from it. Personally I was hoping that this story will serve as a reminder to all of us. Below is the link to the article and the video of Lin Miaoke singing at the Olympic Games opening ceremony, I hope you’ll find these useful.
