Friday the 13th Football

Last night, I read an article on the internet that yesterday was Friday the 13th and that it could spell trouble for the Italians, since their game against Romania was also the 13th game of the tournament. But as it happens, the Italians are more afraid of Friday the 17th because in Italy, 17 are considered an unlucky number and not 13.

After yesterday’s games which kind of fall short of my expectation, I wished earlier that last night’s games will be better, and it happened to be just the case. On the first game, the World Champion tried desperately to win the game to keep them self in the competition.

But apparently, they only manage to force a draw with the Romanians. They almost lost the match but thanks to a brilliant save by Gianluigi Buffon which saw Adrian Mutu’s Penalty parried away. As it happened Italy is on the bottom of group C with only one point while Romania has two points.

The match between Netherlands and France is even better with both teams attacking and counterattacking in turn. But the Dutch continued their impressive form by crushing the French 4 to 1. The first half saw Dirk Kuyt headed past Coupet from a corner but the score stayed the same through the first half.

The second half saw some brilliant substitutions and tactical change by Van Basten which saw Arjen Robben and Robin Van Persie replacing Orlando Engelaar and Dirk Kuyt. Both of them improves the Netherland’s game which evident in Van Persie scoring the second goal from a Robben pas after Van Nistelrooy’s neat trick near the sideline got to Robben.

After that Thierry Henry manages to score only for Robben to score back during the same minute from a tight angle. The Dutch closed their brilliant game with a goal by Wesley Sneijder on injury time. As it stands, Netherlands are on top of group C with 6 points and Romania on second place with 2 points.

France and Italy are both have 1 points and have to win the next match against each other to stay in the tournament, IF Romania loses that match against the Netherlands. Euro 2008 has been great so far and I can’t wait for tonight’s game. See you later!
