Avatar the Movie

Yesterday, I watched Avatar the movie for the second time. The first was several days before Christmas with my best buddy, the second time I went with my wife, my sis and my sis’ boyfriend. Thanks to my ma for taking care of the kids so that we may go and enjoy ourselves a little bit, it has been a while.

Both times we watched the 3D version of Avatar. I admit I was a little skeptic about 3D since the last time I remember watching something in 3D was using this glasses made of thick paper or carton with green and red plastic for the ‘lenses’. I don’t see any fun watching a movie wearing something like that.

I also remembered that before I go watch the movie for the first time, I heard one of my co-worker said that there was nothing special about the 3D effects. In the end I decided to go watch in anyway, since I want to watch that movie not because it is in 3D but because I want to see James Cameron’s grand project with my own eyes. The Forbidden Kingdom Movie

Jet Li and Jackie Chan dishing it out.Being a longtime martial artist myself, I am sure you can already guess who my favorite martial arts movie stars are. Jet Li and Jackie Chan are one of my favorite martial arts movie stars, and you can also imagine how happy I am when I first heard that they are going to make a movie together and an action movie nonetheless!

Of course I won’t object if they want to make a drama movie together sometime in the future. Although I’m sure that they can actually play a drama movie together, most of their fan probably won’t be very happy. Jet and Jackie are already considered today’s most favorite martial arts movie star, and doing a different movie altogether won’t be as successful in my opinion.

Back to the movie. It was very good in my opinion and beside the obvious main stars, the other star are well cast. You just can’t find a better person to play the antagonist in martial arts movie than Collin Chou. I also love him in the Matrix when he played as the Seraph. He has played with Jet Li several times now.

Li Bing Bing or Liu Yi Fei, which one will you choose? And Li Bing Bing is just beautifully cold as the White Haired Demoness, while Liu Yi Fei also fits the role of Golden Sparrow. But I have to admit I like her better as the ‘past’ Golden Sparrow rather than the ‘present’, she just looks too modern for me and her clothing, makeup and hairdo just doesn’t fit the last scene. Demolition Man

Last night, I read about Wesley Snipes on the net. And, unfortunately, it is not about his new movie. It is not even about any movie in general. As it happens, Mr. Snipes was charged with tax fraud and conspiracy. But he was later acquitted of those charges. But he was still found guilty of three misdemeanor charges of failing to file tax returns. And he could face up to three years in prison. One year for each charge. You can read the news on CNN’s website.

I really wish him well during this time. This is not going to be easy for him. But it will especially be hard for his wife and children. I have to admit that I liked his movie. I remember seeing him in Demolition Man, playing the antagonist to Sylvester Stallone. They were both put in suspended animation. And are later awakened in future Los Angeles where the people are peace loving. The funny thing is, when they were put into suspended animation, they were subject to an experiment that literally ‘writes’ new abilities into their brains. Where Snipes gets the deadly and cool abilities like Martial Arts, Sly gets more passive abilities such as knitting. I still remember the action is quite good.

But despite the action, the scene I remember most is where Sandra Bullock’s character takes Sly’s to her place. You have to see it for yourself. It was very funny! The only problem is where to find this movie since it was released around 15 years ago. The only place I could find it is on Amazon.com. I hope you have better luck than me, and are able to find it on a rental near where you live. Good luck!

In Need of a Little More Space

Space, the final frontier….. (Insert Well-Known Tunes Here)

For those of you who is a fan of the series, that line there should be familiar. I am somewhat of a Star Trek fan myself. Though just how much of a fan is definitely arguable. But just yesterday, I watched the new Star Trek Teaser Trailer on my Uncle’s 24-inch iMac. And what a beautiful sight it was. I tried watching the 720p HD version, and instantly, it brings old memories of waking up late at night to watch the TV series of Star Trek during my high school days. The teaser did its job very well indeed. You have to watch the Trailer to understand. I just can’t wait to watch the movie. Too bad, but wait I must. And until Christmas nonetheless! I really hope it is worth the wait.

But actually, the main reason I wrote this post is because of Ubuntu. Have you ever heard of Ubuntu? Ubuntu is a free, Debian derived Linux-based operating system. And I have tried using it for the past 8 months. Ubuntu is very easy to use. At least easy enough to entice me to give it a try. And try I did. I installed it on a 5GB partition. The installation itself is easy enough to pull. And afterwards, whenever you start your computer, it presents you with an OS boot option menu, if you have other OS installed, such as Windows XP. Ubuntu does that by modifying your Master Boot Record. That in itself do not pose a security threat. But last week, because I needed the extra space, I decided to temporarily uninstall Ubuntu. But since I am fairly new with Ubuntu, I don’t really know how. But I have an idea. Using Disk Management in Windows, I formatted the partition containing Ubuntu and Ubuntu’s Swap Directory. And then I formatted it using NTFS. Everything is going normal at first, until I realized that the next time I tried to start my Computer, it would get stuck in the OS boot option menu.

But thank God for the internet. It is just a matter of a few keystrokes and mouse clicks away ’till I find the solution. You see, since Ubuntu mess up your MBR, then in order to be able to boot up to Windows (and not getting stuck up in the OS boot option menu) you have to return the MBR to its state before you installed Ubuntu. To do that, you need the Windows XP installation CD, boot up using it, and enter the Recovery Console. Choose the Harddisk on where you installed XP, enter administrator password (if any) for that XP installation, and then type fdisk /mbr at the command prompt. After that, just restart your PC, and it should take you directly to XP now. I will try to post the exact step-by-step guide next time. Good luck trying!

What was so fascinating about Spiderman 2?

Earlier this week, last Monday to be exact. Me and my girlfriend went to watch Spidey…
It’s been a while since we go to watch a decent movie in a theater (can 2 weeks be considered awhile?)
It’s been even longer since we go to a decent theater to watch movie(that is if you consider PH to be indecent)
And it’s been almost forever since we go watch a decent movie in a decent theater!!! Well frankly, I just like to elaborate…
