They Have Surely Grown Some

Do you have children of your own? I do and sometimes it amazes me how fast they grow. Although they are a toddler still, but it still feel like it was just yesterday that they were born. Oh well, it does sound a little cliché, doesn’t it?

I usually measure their growth by the clothes they are wearing. Nowadays, my oldest kid’s clothes are already to small for her to wear, and now it is my youngest kid who wears it. Even then, lately I’ve noticed that even the clothes are getting too small for him also. Read the rest of this entry »

Again About the Olympic Games

Here it goes, another writing about the Olympic Games. I am not a fan of swimming, but I guess I can make an exception now. It was not actually swimming in general, but more because of Michael Phelps, the 23-years-old swimmer from the USA.

He is catching the eyes of media around the world because he said that he wanted to break the record of the most gold medals won in a single Olympic Games. The last record belonged to Mark Spitz with 7 gold medals which he won in the 1972 Olympic Games. Read the rest of this entry »

Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Lip Synch

A couple of days ago I was just reading the BBC News site through the site’s feeds as usual when I read an article about the China Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. It said that a pretty girl who was singing at the ceremony was actually miming / lip synching.

The girl, Lin Miaoke, who is 9 years old, was chosen to sing because she was pretty, and the girl who actually sung, Yang Peiyi, who is 7 years old, was told that she cannot appear at the ceremony because she was deemed not as ‘presentable’ as Lin Miaoke.

I was shocked when I read about it. I mean, they are teaching these two kids that it is okay to accept such treatment and discrimination. Even if their parent didn’t initially agreed to do such thing, the question is did they have a choice in the matter? Read the rest of this entry »
